The Basics of Laser Engraving

  • Design - Starting at $50/hr

    I am not a graphic designer. I can design simple images and text to be engraved for you, however it is best to provide your own images for engraving. Design files will be accepted in the following format: Adobe Illustrator (AI), SVG, or other Vector based formats.

    If Vector files are provided in the proper formats with no edits needed the Design fee will be waived.

  • Setup and Test - $50

    This is the standard cost to ‘turn on the laser’. It will include one (1) test engrave on scrap wood/leather to determine image quality, depth of cut and appx time to engrave to provide a quote for production engraving.

    Fee includes one (1) minor design change - IE: Spelling mistake or image resizing

    Design and Setup fees are non-refundable and must be paid prior to work commencing.

  • Bring on the BURN! $1/min

    Once the test engraving and quote have been approved then the production engraving will begin. Cost is $1/min that the laser is running which includes material setup/squaring and overseeing the burn.

    A 1” x 1” fully engraved square will take appx 3 minutes to engrave

    See examples below as a reference for engraving time. Actual time for you project may vary, which is why a test engrave is done to provide an accurate quote.

After the engraving

The above costs are only for the physical laser engraving. Depending on the material, depth of engraving etc. there could be some smoke marks or scorching that needs to be cleaned up - as you can see in the image to the right.

Cleaning, sanding, finishing etc. is NOT included in the engraving price. These services are available with a starting rate of $50/hr.
